We have developed a co-creative process, designed for people who believe that another way of living is possible; people who may have been been studying, planning, and dreaming of this for years.
What we ask of you is a contribution of time, energy, money. What you receive in return is a haven to stay in Basque Country, membership in the founding cohort, partial voting rights in the cooperative, an in-depth learning process that includes an open view of everything we learn as we build it.
Botanically, a rhizome is the stem of a plant that grows horizontally underground, sending out roots and shoots from a new location. From the surface each plant looks discrete; in reality, however, they form part of a living network, each node of which stores both the nutrients and genetic information necessary to survive independently. The rhizome is a biological model for the form of decentralized and fractal iteration we are nurturing with Mycelium.
It’s not accidental that the rhizome, apart from being an ancient form of plant propagation, is also the organ through which these plants join a fungal network, forming a symbiotic mycorrhizal relationship between kingdoms. Hundreds of millions of years ago, during the Ordovician period when plants first began growing on land, mycorrhizal association allowed plants to benefit from the nutrient-capturing capacity of the mycelial network, while offering the mycelium the unique benefits garnered through photosynthesis.
This symbiotic combination of capacities was an evolutionary watershed that changed the future of life on earth. It inspires both the depth and significance of the co-creative mutual thriving we aim to foster here.
